Best Seasons for Around Manaslu Trekking

Around Nepal Himalaya almost the same seasons including Around Mt. Manaslu the best and the high times from March to May with September to November months of the year.

Around March to May most days are clear for views and for pleasant walks of moderate climate temperatures, and with longer sunlight hours when wild flowers are in season, especially rhododendron of many different species from tall tree to bushes with varied colors (Rhododendron national flower of Nepal).

March to May late afternoon can get overcast sometimes with chances of rain and snow around high altitude as well on Larke-La Pass.

September to November during autumn /fall another best months with clear blue sky and sunny days (for short while from morning to mid day) can be cold and freezing during morning and night times above 1,800 m high with chances of snow.

High Manaslu Valley populated by Manaslu people known as Bhotia of Strong Tibetan origin the ethnic hill tribes of North Mid Western Himalaya follows Buddhism religion similar culture as Tibetans with colorful impressive custom and heritage life of farming and cattle herding, the people of high Manaslu valley still trade and barters with Tibetan as the border located close to high Manaslu area.

Lower area and mid hills inhabited by mix hill tribes of both Hindu and Buddhism religions with various interesting cultures of Gurung, Magar and Bhotia with some Newar people includes Hindu Brahmin and Chettries also within farm villages on route trekking.

Around Manaslu Trekking begins with long exciting drive from Kathmandu to reach Nepal Mid West within the district of Gorkha heading past number of rural farm villages and interesting town to reach the start of walks at Arughat and further at Soti-Khola small farm town.

Walk follows raging Burigandaki River upstream heading into cooler hills and visiting nice farm village inhabited by various hill people interwoven with both Hindu and Buddhism religion, as walk leads higher entering at Manaslu Valley from the village of Namrung onwards.

Adventure leads to beautiful areas and village of Lo-Gaon facing majestic views of world 8th highest Mt. Manaslu that stands at 8,163 m and 26,781 ft high first conquest by Japanese Expedition in May 9th 1956.

From Lo-Gaon heading towards the main large village at Sama-Gaon, having rest days to support acclimatization and to explore around its interesting villages of strong Tibetan Buddhist culture and heritage.

After Sama-Gaon towards the end of Manaslu rim and Gorkha district, where next morning climb takes you to traverse over high Larke-la pass the tallest spot of the adventure offering mind-blowing panorama of high mountain range.

With superb views as adventure leads to long descend to reach back into lovely woodland at Bhimthang and further down at nice and large Dharapani village where Manaslu and Annapurna circuit meets.

Detail Itenerary

On arrival at Nepal international airport in Kathmandu, where Professional Trekking Guide staff receives with warm welcome and then transfer to your hotel in the hub of Kathmandu. On checking your rooms getting refreshed then join in at hotel foyer / lobby meeting with other members of the trek, where our guide will brief you with information on Around Manaslu Trekking. Evening group welcome dinner in a nice Nepalese environment restaurant with native folk culture programs along with the dinner.
A free day in Kathmandu you can enjoy at leisure as well preparation for the trek, on this day interested people can join in our exciting guided sightseeing tour for half or full day tour at places of great interest around World Heritage Sites.
Morning after breakfast depart from the hotel in Kathmandu for long and interesting drive towards Nepal Mid-West around low warm areas of Gorkha district to reach Arughat, a farm town with many shops and stores as well lodges. From Arughat drive continues further following Burigandaki River upstream to reach Soti-Khola for overnight stop in a small farm village close to a stream of Soti (khola).
First day walks starts heading into steep sided valley within forest and past many small farm villages, as walk leads into a wide valley opposite to a large tributary stream that joins with Burigandaki River. Nice views of cultivated terrace of Lapbesi upper village then route descend to a wide riverbed as path leads to climb towards Machha Khola for overnight stop, a small farm village with teashops and nice simple small lodge for overnight accommodation, where the word Maccha Fish hence the name as Machha Khola (stream).
After Machha-Khola encountering many nice farm villages with neat cultivated fields, where vegetation changes gradually as altitude gains along with cooler climate, as morning walk leads to cross a stream where Machha Khola (Fish stream) name comes from. From here walk upstream towards Bensi village a place with natural hot spring known as ‘Tatopani’ in Nepali, walk continues crossing over bridge, after a short period of walks enter into cool shade of forest to reach at Doban located on the high shelf of Burigandaki River. After few refreshing stops walk leads across a broad gravel field towards Lauri stream and then crossing suspension bridge which leads to a climb on high trails and then descending into open valley of Yara Khola, as our journey continues on for another hour to reach at Jagat village for overnight stop. Jagat a nice looking farm village of moderate size after Arughat; people are of mix race with Magar, Chettries, Brahman, Manaslu Bhotia (Tibetan looking tribes) and some Newar people.
From Jagat village, walk heads on high side of a hill past rural farm villages and descend to cross a bridge reaching at Nagjet and then walking past Philim, a large farm village with scattered houses. Beyond the village of Philim route leads to farm terraces of golden agriculture fields of wheat, barley, and then climb above rocky ridge within a forest of bamboo to reach at Deng village for overnight stop.
After a pleasant overnight at Deng, morning route leads around much colder area, as journey continues for few hours on steep sided within scenic valley, encountering Mani prayer stone walls as walk leads at Ghap a nice village with stop for possible lunch break. After Ghap walk altitude gains entering into alpine and coniferous woodland where path meanders with steep up as valley opens out with extensive pastures and then crossing a large stream flowing from the glacier of Lidana. On route facing great views of Manaslu where local name is Kutang (Manaslu) Himal range includes Pang Phuchin 6,335m, Saula Himal 6,235m with many unnamed peaks of above 6000m. Walk from here on slow uphill as altitude gains slowly heading past farm village to reach at Namrung for overnight stop, this village with other name as Sho Namru.
With wonderful overnight at Namrung village, morning begins to reach more spread out farm fields and Yak herder shelter, as route leads to high Manaslu valley where local are much engaged in farming during summer. From here walk leads to high and scenic valley all the way to Lo Gaon a nice village for overnight stop, an attractive villages of high Manaslu valley, at Lo-Gaon enjoy close views of towering Manaslu North Face. Around Lo visit the village old monastery, numerous chhorten and Mani walls with views of Ganesh Himal towards east.
From Lo-Gaon walk on wide gradual path as high altitude catches at gradual speed facing views of Peak 29 ahead, after few hours head into a small forested area at Shala village offers excellent view of Phungi, Manaslu and Himal Chuli. Walk for few hours further as day completes on reaching at Sama-Gaon a village, with super close views of Mt. Manaslu.
Extra day at Sama-Gaon village to get used with high altitude that supports acclimatization before heading towards high Larke-La pass, rest day with time for walks around nice and interesting village visit old Monastery of Nyligpa (red hat sect) sect of Buddhism, the villagers are still active with trade and bartering across the border with Tibet taking few days to reach the frontier of Nepal and Tibet, as Manaslu valley located close to old Trans Himalayan Salt Trade route.
After time at Sama-Gaon, morning a short day walk of more few hours to reach last village of Gorkha and Manaslu valley at Samdo, as walk start with slow climb as elevation gains taking time having short stops to enjoy surrounding wonderful views of peaks and dramatic terrains. Walk continues to the end on reaching at Samdo village located on a small flat plateau where the village located, moderate size village of more than forty houses with about two hundred villagers living this high harsh country.
From Samdu the last village and settlement around upper Manaslu valley and within Gorkha district, as morning walk leads to the end of valley rim, with grand views of snow capped peaks views of Mt. Manaslu. Walk leads to cross icy streams and then ending the walk for the day at Larke Phedi means bottom of the pass, also known as Dharmasala means ‘travelers rest house / shade’, where in early days also called Larke Bazaar, (where trade and bartering was held between merchant-traders of Gorkha-Manaslu-Manang people and Tibetans on this remote isolated spot). At Larke Phedi afternoon free for short walks and preparations for next early morning long climb and descend crossing high Larke-La pass to reach Manang areas.
After stop and overnight at Larke Phedi, early morning start as route lead climb to steep hill slope over moraine of rocks and boulders (in snow conditions arduous job to find the right path). Adventure continues past ablation area over north of Larke glacier, facing views of Cho Danda with Larke Peak, and then ascent gets steeper to reach on top of Larke-la, festooned with thousands of Buddhist colorful prayer flags. At the top of Larke-La Pass enjoy fantastic views of Himlung, Cheo Himal, Kang Guru and Annapurna II includes series of Manaslu peaks. Enjoying glorious mountain views and then with long downhill to reach back into green vegetation and tree lines after a small place of Larcia, as walks leads on moraine ridge to Tambuche at 3,900m, the bottom of the pass, and then with short walk to Bhimthang for overnight. Bhimthang a lovely place located on a wide green valley with number of lodges adorned with prayer Mani walls, surrounded by green tall trees of rhododendron-pines and oaks.
From Bhimthang rest of the journey gets easier with downhill with few short climb in between on the trail to Ghoa and Dharapani village, morning catching views of peaks starting with gradual speed into thick alpine woodland. Walk within enchanting forest to reach a small clearing in the midst of woodland at Ghoa for overnight stop, a small cattle and yak herders summer pasture and temporary settlement.
Today last walk of the adventure as morning walk follows downhill path into deep forest to reach a nice village at Tilje village, a nice place by the raging Marysangdi River. From here cross a suspension bridge then with steep short climb to reach at a large and nice Dharapani village located on the junction of famous Annapurna Circuit trail and Around Manaslu Trekking route. Dharapani located on a river gorge with lovely tree lines where motorable has been constructed since past few years, the village provides excellent lodges.
Morning depart from lovely high Mid-West Himalaya area at Dharapani village for exciting drive to reach back at Kathmandu where ride follows on interesting road to reach down at low farm villages town, and past Besisar large town within Lamjung area where drive takes on main highway to reach Kathmandu then back at your hotels with afternoon free to enjoy personal and individual activities and shopping.

This trek is suitable for average people who are moderately fit, thus no previous experience is required. Some physical fitness programs such as running, swimming, hiking is recommended before you embark on your journey. Whilst on the trek, it is common to experience some discomfort before being fully acclimatized.
To prepare for a strenuous trek like this you should begin training at least two to three months before your departure. As a guideline, an hour of aerobic exercise three to four times per week would be considered a minimum requirement. The best preparation is bushwalking involving relatively steep ascents and descents. If you can manage a couple of valley floor to ridgeline ascents per comfortable and able to enjoy the trek to the fullest.
